Cork Fabric on the ScanNcut

UPDATE
I cut some more cork fabric to make a wallet. (Free pattern from Sew Sweetness.) This time I placed the cork pattern face down and cut with the same settings as below. Cut beautifully.

Today I decided to have a go with cork fabric on my ScanNcut. This was a plain cork but you can get many patterns and colours. I purchased mine thru Aussie Cork on Facebook.

This fabric is made by adhering cork pieces to a backing of cotton and the finished product looks a little like canvas on the back. You need a good sharp blade and although I used a new mat I also taped the cork down.

As always I did a test cut which worked well. I did find the cork lifted a little as it cut and I had brayered it down so I sat beside the machine and pressed it down as it lifted.

I found the auto sensing was cutting a little too deep so I set it to speed 1 and cut pressure -2. You would need to play a little and get your settings right. (I have the SDX1000)

It was a fun little piece and as I wanted to use it I thought I would make a bookmark, so I layered some fabric between the patterned cork and a plain piece and sewed it together on my machine. You could, of course,

use a fabric glue instead of sewing.

Good fun and I will be playing with this again.

Gift Box

I love making cards and spend a bit of time doing it. So eventually I have plenty of cards and I give them as gifts. I designed this box that will comfortably hold 6-8 cards with envelopes.

I have uploaded the files with a emboss fold and a kiss cut fold.

If you want to use your embossing tool in the ScanNcut see my previous post.

Simple to make. After cutting the file use a paper scoring tool to make folds.
Then fold the end pieces into the box and secure. I use double sided tape but any adhesive will work. .

Repeat this on both the top and the bottom pieces and decorate as desired. I have used a flower, the pattern is from Dreaming Tree. It is sitting in a double bow.

Just to let you know the base overall measurement should be 20.78 cm x 24.61 cm and the top 17.55cm x 21.38 cm.

Here it is all finished - have fun
